Grocery Sales Week of March 30, 2009

I was reminded that Aldi has dropped the price on some of their staples.  Last week Aldi's had milk for $1.69, butter for $1.88, flour $1.59, sugar $1.99, eggs $0.69.  Great prices for staples and the small store makes it easy to run in and run out.  Don't forget your own bags and a quarter for the cart.

Not too many hot deals this week, but here they are.

Spring Walton Feed Order -- orders due April 20

Good news!

We have another Walton Feed order scheduled. Orders will be due to me by April 20, 2009.

Tell your friends and neighbors about this order, please. Many people would like to order the kinds of products Walton sells, but don't know where or how. The fuller the truck, the sooner the shipment, so tell your friends and co-workers.

Here are the details:

To order, please go to Waltonfeed.com, and using their shopping cart, select the items and quantity you would like. When you are finished, print out the order. Using their total weight, multiply the weight by .19 cents. Add the shipping to the total cost for the items plus a $5 drop charge for the total amount. Send your check and order to: Jennifer D, PO BOX 915, West Chester, OH 45071.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at wcfoodstorage at gmail dot com.

Grocery Sales Week of March 23, 2009

Discounted Meat? -- Thanks to a reader for passing along this tidbit.  She was at the West Chester Meijer store and was able to score some 8% fat ground beef for $1.49/# from the "fresh meat" counter.  Here's the trick -- just before the butcher is leaving for the day he may mark down the meat to get rid of it.  Best chances are about 7pm on Tuesday and Thursdays.  If you don't shop at this Meijer, just ask your butcher when he or she marks down the meat.  If you find out and share with me, I'll share with all next week.

Grocery Sales Week of March 9, 2009

Q: I remember seeing _________ in an ad, but I don't remember which one.  How do I find it without pouring through all the ads?
A: http://mygrocerydeals.com/  This website was just brought to my attention a few weeks ago.  It looks like a great resource for answering the above question, or just "where is milk on sale this week?" (the answer is nowhere in their database).  You will have to sign up for a free membership to get access to the data.

Scholastic Book Sale -- I almost missed this one....
March 10th-13th at their warehouse in West Chester near Lakota West High School
see their website for more info....
http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse/states.asp?st_abbrev=OH

Don't get the Sunday Paper?  Local stores take internet coupons printed from:
www.coupons.com
www.smartsource.com
www.coolsavings.com
Each website requires you to install a "plug-in" to your web browser.  This helps them keep track of what coupons you've printed and help to minimize fraud.  Most coupons can be printed twice.   Each coupon is individually coded so don't try to skirt the system and make photo copies.  Also, save your ink and print in black/white.  I set my printer to default to b/w.  This saves a lot of money on ink.  Also these coupons have been changing on the first of the month.

If you've got a baby in diapers, check out coupons.com for high value Huggies coupons.

Grocery Sales Week of March 2, 2009

Here's a couple of Q&A's for the week:

Last week I asked how to tell if a cantaloupe was ripe.  A reader responded with this hint....
To find a ripe cantaloupe:  Smell the stem end.  If it smells ripe, it is.  Even if it is soft, it won't smell ripe if it was picked green.  I personally like to have the skin "give" a little.  That indicates the ripeness I like.  My mother preferred them squishy!  You need to learn what the cantaloupe feels like at your preferred ripeness.

Q: How do you know if there's a coupon for an item?
A: I remember a lot of coupons that come in the newspaper, but I also use technology when my memory fails.  One place I go is http://www.coupontom.com/.  Just start typing a product name and it'll come up with coupons that match.  Not all coupons are in this database and sometimes the Sunday coupons don't seem to be in there right away.  But this is a great source for a quick "is there a coupon I can use" question.

If you live, work or travel near Monroe - check out the IGA deals - Friday Only!
