Grocery Sales Week of February 23, 2009

Welcome to some new readers from Oxford.  For their convenience I'm changing the store order.  Kroger will now be first on the list.  And a reminder to scroll down for what my codes mean.

Last week I went to Aldi and was reminded that it's always good to shop there first.  Milk was $1.98 and eggs $0.69.  Considerably less then Kroger or Meijer.  But what shocked me the most was the price of flour: 5# for $1.49 and apples: 3# bags for $1.29.  Now this isn't my favorite price for flour, but it's a far cry from the $2.79 I saw recently.  After Aldi I went to Meijer and noticed their flour is now $1.55/5# bag.  So, perhaps prices are coming down on flour.

Flour tip: ever had flour bugs?  To avoid the problem, throw your flour in the freezer for 48-72 hours.  This kills any eggs that *may* be present.  After 2-3 days, set out and bring to room temperature before storing.

Nothing spectacular this week this week.  But if there's a good price on something your family uses, consider stocking up as your budget allows.
